The Role
Student Support and Wellbeing
SpLD Study Skills Tutors (Part-time, £25.10 per hour)
Student Support and Wellbeing at the University of Kent, Canterbury campus, requires suitably qualified and experienced persons to provide hourly study skills support sessions for students who have been formally assessed for and diagnosed with dyslexia, ADD and other Specific Learning Difficulties, in order to facilitate independent learning. We offer comprehensive in-house training each term, a supportive team environment, and our efficient admin team organise our tutor timetables. Hours of work are flexible within the times of 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday.
The Person
The person appointed will have a proactive, practical approach to the provision of advice and support for individual students, with experience of working with students who have Specific Learning Difficulties. It is important that applicants should be highly motivated and well-organised, and have a genuine commitment to equal opportunities.
Good interpersonal skills are essential, as the post holder will be offering advice and training to students with Specific Learning Difficulties. A professional attitude to work, clients and colleagues is essential at all times in this challenging post. Other important skills will include efficient record-keeping and effective use of IT packages, with particular proficiency in the relevant assistive software.
We are looking for tutors who have a degree and a recognised specialist dyslexia support qualification, such as the OCR Level 7 Certificate in Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties.
Tutors must be available during the University terms. Please note these are different to school term dates.
