The Curation and Discovery Supervisor is a pivotal role that coordinates, supervises and supports the work of our small Curation and Discovery Team. This team makes our teaching and research content discoverable and ensures access to our collections and content.

The Curation and Discovery Team operate at the centre of a matrix of library teams to provide essential support. Duties include cataloguing our Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) collections, maintaining metadata standards for the Kent Academic Repository and managing e-resources access through regular processes and troubleshooting. The Curation & Discovery Supervisor plays a key role, contributing their expertise and supporting team development.

This role reports to, and works closely with the Collections Manager, and liaises with other managers across the Library’s Learning and Research Resources (LRR) Section. We are an award winning, supportive and empowering area, and you will be supported to develop in your career.

As a Curation and Discovery Supervisor, you can expect to be involved in:

Day-to-day supervision for the Curation and Discovery Team, including prioritisation of team resource to deliver core services. This includes enquiry triage rotas, training, guidance, SC&A Reading Room cover and events.
Working closely with the Collections Manager and liaising with other teams, including colleagues across our Unified Library Management System Partnership (ULMS). This will inform how you allocate work and set team priorities. You will monitor team performance on a day-to-day basis and develop team capabilities.
Providing specialist advice to support and develop our curation and metadata practices and processes. This includes resource description, management of e-resources, system development and monitoring sector developments, standards and best practice.
What will you bring to the role?

Formal or vocational qualifications (A levels, NVQ level 3, City and Guilds, AAT), or the equivalent work experience in a relevant role.
Good IT skills, experience with library systems and databases functionality, and the ability to learn new systems.
Ability to supervise and support staff.
Experience of data input, checking, reporting and editing for metadata records, including working knowledge of metadata standards, subject headings and authorities (RDA, MARC21, LCC, LCSH).
