An interesting new instruction on behalf of the local Council for a Prevention Plus Officer.

Whilst there is some flexibility on the ideal client, it is considered potentially ideal for someone who is ex-Police, but it is all about having the experience and skills to work with a diverse client base and help people into training or employment.

Key Elements of the position:
The role reports to the Housing & Inclusion Manager and essentially, is all about working with vulnerable individuals or families in the community, to prevent homelessness, including empowering and supporting these individuals to plan their short, medium and long term futures as well as crisis support.

The main purpose of the role is to work proactively, alongside the Housing Advice & Prevention Officers, aiming to reach out to individuals at an early stage, maximising opportunities to prevent homelessness and delivering sustainable outcomes. You will work to empower and support vulnerable individuals and households to plan their short, medium, to long term, futures as well as crisis support.

The role is also focused on helping people over the longer term and overseeing a clients progress on a day to day basis over a 12 week Prevention Plus programme as they seek employment and beyond.

The Prevention Plus Officer will also staff a Housing Advice Surgery one afternoon per week at the Citizens Advice Bureau and also run a Rough Sleepers Outreach Service at the Civic Centre one afternoon each week.

Duration, Location, Hours of Work & Rate of Pay:
The role is initially available for up to 12 months and thereafter, every opportunity for the role to be further extended or become permanent.
This is a full time position, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday and is paying between £14.31 - £16.41 per hour, depending on experience.
This is not an outreach role and for most part you will be based in Folkestone, but any essential business mileage (local) would be covered.
There is also the opportunity to complete any administrative duties either in the office or working from home, to suit.

Additional experience and skills that would be helpful:
Experienced support work with evidence of on to one and group work practice.
Experience of collaborative and inter-agency working.
Experience of assessing people’s needs using a variety of tools and methods.
Good IT skills
Experience of motivating and building confidence of the hard to reach and long term unemployed.
Any experience of using housing case law, homelessness and private sector tenancy legislation and its application.
Any experience of delivering homeless prevention support.
You must be able to work as part of a team and at the same time, operate on your own initiative with minimal supervision.

Desirable:-
A relevant Chartered Institute of Housing recognised qualification or a qualification in a related field (ie. Advice & Guidance m Education, Youth Work, Health & Social Care, Mental Health or Social work, Employment & Training) or recent relevant experience of homelessness and housing advice that demonstrates a level of proficiency in this area).

The successful individual would ned to complete an Enhanced DBS check at no personal cost.
