Job Purpose
To ensure that the Port oupholds and works towards finding new, innovative and economically reductive ways to stay green and to ensure compliance to current and emerging environmental legislation. To be the catalyst for activity and commitment to environmental management by developing, implementing and monitoring environmental strategies. Responsible for communicating plans, building and looking after budgets, making Port perform more efficiently and therefore more competitively, which in turn promotes environmental and sustainability improvements. Working with the communications and marketing teams to market your green strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
The role also requires the daily management of the environment team and to maintain the environmental elements of the Port’s integrated management system, providing timely advice and solutions on environmental issues associated with port operations and developments. The role will drive the business forward to maintain a high standard of environmental performance, enabling the port to promote their environmental achievements.
Duties of the Post Holder
• Implement changes and communicate them effectively: develop, implement and deliver environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure corporate sustainable development. • To facilitate an effective communication strategy for all levels, whilst considering the demands of policy and circumstances, to ensure that all of the Port’s staff, departments, the senior management team and the organisation understand and undertake their environmental responsibilities o Work with internal stakeholders to develop policies to ensure sustainable procurement for all goods and services o Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices o To provide a proactive, efficient and professional environmental advisory service o Train staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities • Responsible for communicating and marketing sustainability campaigns to internal and external stakeholders • Work closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, your audience and in some cases the press, to educate and inform them on the changes you’re looking to implement and how they will impact the environment and workplace. o Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues o Participate in environmental education and research • To be responsible for the organisations environmental policy, performance indicators and objective and targets, and to advise management on the appropriate environmental impact control measures. To provide an update of progress to the organisation and Senior Management on a monthly and annual basis via environmental reports, and prepare other documents and reports as and when necessary o Write environmental reports, assuming lead responsibility in the company • Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental well-being, conservation and renewable energy • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keep up to date with existing and emerging UK and international regulation and legislation, to analyse the impacts of any new legislation and respond to consultations appropriately. o To undertake audits of the Port’s activities, contractors, operators and tenants to ensure legislative compliance in accordance with the requirements of ISO14001

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in business, environmental sciences, environmental management, engineering or sustainability
Practitioner of IEMA (PIEMA) or equivalent body
ISO14001 Lead Auditor
Minimum 5 Years’ experience in environmental / sustainability field
Experience of managing and mentoring a team including development of apprentices.
Environmental Assessment
Sustainability Strategy design
Experience of work in the port, marine and coastal environment
Experience working within BREEAM
Experience working with CEEQual
Stakeholder management
Experience of managing contracts
Experience of the Environmental Impact Assessment process and marine licensing
Experience within waste and energy management
Experience of submitting funding bids and delivering funded projects.
Specialist Skills and Knowledge
Sustainability and emerging trends
Understanding of UK policy, current and emerging environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
Carbon foot printing
ISO 14001 Lead Auditor or equivalent
Marine environmental legislation
Species Identification
Marine Spill Response
Knowledge of BREEAM
Knowledge of CEEQual
Energy and Air Quality Management
Knowledge of GIS
