Pension Scheme Accounts and Payroll assistant
A super opportunity with career progression!

Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to join an expanding Company?

A fantastic opportunity to join a well-established Company that provides excellent knowledge and support to their employees as well as a competitive salary, training, and benefits.
Due to expansion my client has an opportunity for a pension scheme administrator to join their team.

We are seeking a full-time accounts and payroll assistant to prepare pension scheme accounts for our clients, with at least one day a week working on pensioner payroll.

Preparing accounts to trial balance and processing employer or pensioner payroll would be desirable. Experience in drafting statutory accounts would also be beneficial, but not essential.
My client is looking someone who is self-motivated and can work autonomously as well as part of a team. You should have a positive attitude and communicate effectively within the team. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of clients, alongside a small team in their office but also support other offices as they move towards a national approach.
You will need to demonstrate:
• A sound knowledge of double entry book-keeping
• Good time management skills and the ability to plan for and meet deadlines.
• Good reconciliation and problem solving skills.
• Attention to detail, including numerical and grammatical accuracy.
• The ability to communicate clearly with internal Administration, Actuarial and Investment teams, Investment Managers, Auditors and Trustees.
• An appreciation that quality client service is fundamental to their business.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and Word.
The role will involve:
• Updating the OpenAir accounting system with transactions.
• Obtaining valuation and disclosure information on scheme investments.
• Calculation of accruals and prepayments.
• Reconciliation of pension payroll, investments and contributions to accounting records.
• Preparation of a trial balance starting from summary cash book.
• Assisting in preparing first drafts of the Trustees’ Report & Financial Statements for pension schemes.
• Liaising with internal Administration, Actuarial and Investment teams to obtain information necessary for drafting accounts.
• Preparation of audit files and dealing with standard audit queries.
• Processing monthly payrolls – including updates for new pensioners, deaths, tax codes and lump sum payments, plus RTI submissions to HMRC.
• Processing Year End for all payrolls – including final FPS submissions to HMRC, issuing P60s and closing the payroll for the year.
• Responding to payroll queries from clients and pensioners and supporting the pensions administration team where required.
We will support training through a relevant apprenticeship course. We have over 300 staff including actuaries, administrators, and accountants, across 5 office sites and provide a relaxed and flexible working environment.
Benefits include:
• Competitive salary.
• 25 days annual leave.
• The option to work in a hybrid style, combining office-based working with working from home.
• Flexibility in the working day to help accommodate your commute or family commitments.
• Pension scheme with 7% employer contribution.
• Training and accreditations encouraged and funded.
• Regular office social events.
