Flood Risk Officer
Salary: £30,034 - £34,180 per annum
Permanent Full Time
Closing Date: 28 February 2022
There is an exciting opportunity to join the Flood and Water Management Team in Kent. The team leads KCC’s role as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), delivering local flood risk management in Kent, working with partners to reduce the risk of flooding and to improve the water environment and acting as a statutory consultee for surface water in planning applications.
The team delivers projects to assess local flood risk, design flood mitigation schemes and construct them to reduce the risk of flooding in the county. We are also involved in developing policy, at a local and national level, to promote sustainable water use and effective flood risk management.
We have a vacancy for a Flood Risk Officer to help us deliver our LLFA role. This role will support our statutory consultee duty and land drainage authority roles. You will provide expert advice on the surface water management provisions of new developments and land drainage proposals. You will also provide drainage and flood risk advice for residents, partners, Local Plans, Strategic Flood Risk Assessments, Local Flood Risk Management Strategies and other strategic documents. You will help to assess flood risk in the county, to investigate incidents of flooding and to deliver projects that help to reduce flood risk.
The role requires collaborative working with County, District and Borough Council officers within engineering, emergency resilience and planning departments as well as external partners such as the Environment Agency, Water Companies and Internal Drainage Boards. The role will also require answering enquiries from customers, stakeholders and developers and providing general advice internally and externally.
This post would suit someone with knowledge and experience of drainage and surface water management, particularly in a planning or an engineering context. You will need to be able to work independently and manage your own workload. You must have confidence in dealing with the public and be capable of communicating complex technical matters clearly. You must be computer literate with experience of using spreadsheets and databases.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
Interviews will be held in the week commencing 21 March 2022. To apply, please click the apply button below.
