Are you an experienced mental health worker passionate about providing quality mental health support?

Mental Health Resource is a local, registered charity working to improve mental wellbeing in the community through the provision of safe spaces and person-centred mental health support in our community.

Our Reachout projects provide weekly peer support groups in West Kent to adults and young people. We enable clients to share their experiences, provide tools and strategies to manage their mental health, and facilitate activities to enhance wellbeing. We are looking for someone with proven experience of delivering similar mental health services to join our team. You will have strategic responsibility for both the Reachout adult and young people’s groups and will deliver the Reachout adult peer support groups. Groups are currently held in Southborough, Paddock Wood and Edenbridge. In addition, you will have line management responsibility for the Reachout youth groups.

The successful candidate will have solid experience managing a small team, including providing regular supervision, and have experience of delivering mental health support groups. A qualification in management, social care or counselling will be helpful.

You will need to be able to work on your own initiative and have excellent interpersonal skills. You will confidently network with external stakeholders and work effectively with clients, involving them in decision-making and encouraging them to provide feedback on services.

You will need to be able to travel independently across West Kent. The groups meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the role will also involve time spent working from home or in the office. Further details about the project can be found on our website www.mentalhealthresource.org.uk/services.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

To be responsible for the management of Reachout projects in the community

To coordinate and facilitate a network of self-help peer support groups for people with mental health conditions living in West Kent.

To engage people with lived experience of mental health issues across West Kent

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitating groups

1. Arrange and facilitate weekly or fortnightly mental wellbeing peer support groups in the community

2. Facilitate the groups and ensure the project runs smoothly

3. Ensure new referrals are processed in a timely manner and facilitate access to the groups

4. To encourage the group to identify any activities or tasks that they may wish to undertake and assist the group in planning and carrying them out.

5. Facilitate discussions about mental health within the groups and encourage self-help coping strategies, as appropriate to the situation

6. Provide confidential one to one emotional support within the scope of the role

7. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of other local services and signpost clients to other appropriate external mental health services when necessary

8. Provide a link to the provision of other Charity projects to ensure clients always receive the most appropriate level of support for whatever issues they are facing

9. Ensure safety and wellbeing for all clients, reporting any concerns to the Charity Manager

10. Ensure good Health and Safety at each venue, and ensure members are aware of emergency procedures

11. To liaise with the appropriate person about venue hire

12. Undertake regular risk assessments.

13. Maintain concise, detailed, accurate and up to date client records accurate and statistical data

14. Measure outcomes and monitor the quality of the service provided

15. Provide regular updates and reports

16. Manage small petty cash float and a small budget

17. Assist in the promotion and marketing of the project

Networking

18. To promote Reachout and liaise with outside agencies.

19. To develop links with and meet with people within organisations across the wider mental health system as well as community settings such as, workplaces, festivals, community groups, cafes and faith groups

20. To work effectively in partnership with other providers across the County, sharing practice and knowledge of issues affecting service users

21. To attend the Local Mental Health Network meetings and other community meetings that are relevant to the project

22. To gather the experiences of people who have accessed mental health services and provide feedback on their experiences of the mental health system

23. To encourage people with lived experience to participate in working with statutory services

Management

24. To provide management and leadership to the Reachout Youth project, supporting staff to achieve their potential and to deliver targets

25. To provide clinical supervision to the Reachout Youth staff

26. To lead on the development of the project, liaising with project staff

27. To ensure any safeguarding concerns are dealt with appropriately

GENERAL

28. Attend team meetings, training and supervision as and when required

29. Perform all duties in accordance with Mental Health Resource’s policies and best practice procedures, paying specific attention to safeguarding, data protection, confidentiality, lone working, health and safety and equality and diversity.

30. To participate in charity events, networking events, and any other relevant event as and when required. Some public speaking may be required.

31. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by your line manager
