Background

The Student Systems (QL) team are the systems owners with responsibility for the management, development and maintenance of the current QL University Student Record System, collaborating with IT. The team is responsible for:

- managing the data set-up in relation to programmes, modules and assessments;
- managing the annual rollover of curriculum and student data;
- adhoc reporting on student and curriculum data, and collaborating with wider institutional stakeholders, e.g. Admissions, Records and Assessments, and Planning, on complex student records and institutional reporting needs;
- data and error investigation and analysis for the QL system and related processes;
- support of day to day queries related to QL system data via phone, email and face to face;
- systems configuration, user profiles and workflow management;
- design and delivery of training for our QL system.


The team demonstrates a strong technical understanding of our student systems and are able to work effectively between / liaise with IT, systems/end/service users and process owners. The team also has responsibility for production of / co-ordination of operational reports from student systems and for oversight and assurance of curriculum (module and programme) data quality. The team has responsibility for ensuring the data within the system is understood and effectively utilised by Planning and Academic Administration staff through clear communication about relevant processes, guidance and training, enabling teams with responsibility for business as usual functions, such as Module Choice, to support and develop guidance for their business processes. In addition, this team collaborate with Student Records and Assessments on joint processes such as Progression and Classification, where both business knowledge and technical expertise are required

The Role

This role will work as part of the Student Systems (QL) team, reporting to the Systems Manager (QL). They will support the monitoring of student record data quality and support the delivery of training on: data quality standards, system tools, and system functionality and collaborate with business functions within their team and across P&AA, supporting business processes that use the Student Records systems.


As part of the customer service ethos within the Student Systems teams, this role will log, investigate and address support calls from across the university related to Student Systems (QL) via phone, email and, from time to time, face to face. They will independently investigate small scale issues and proactively escalate issues that require more senior/expert support.


The Person

Qualified to A-level, relevant professional qualification, or equivalent experience, with knowledge of the HE sector, this person will be familiar with working with stakeholders from across the university. They will have an analytical, creative and innovative approach to problem solving, and will train to work with the Student Systems database, interrogating that data with a commitment to data quality and accuracy. They will be solution-focused, with a customer service ethos, and being able to work to tight deadlines, balancing competing priorities within a busy environment. They will have a confident communication style in both written and oral form being able to explain technical concepts and principals to non-technical audiences.


Additional Information


There will be a requirement to demonstrate a flexible approach to work, which may include providing relevant cover as required across the academic administration team to ensure continuity of service, or undertaking such other duties as may be required.
