The Mental Health Adult Safeguarding Team is a well-established specialist County Team aligned to the newly transformed Mental Health social work Teams as well as the MH inpatient settings and Forensic Services. The team undertake the Designated Senior Officer role for adult MH safeguarding enquiries in line with S42 of the Care Act 2014. The Safeguarding team work very closely with individuals, and other agencies to promote and embed the Care Act principles as well as making safeguarding personal.

The service is now looking to appoint experienced registered Safeguarding Practitioners within Kent. As a Safeguarding Practitioner you would be responsible for instigating and coordinating Statutory lines of enquiries and for the key decision stages in response to safeguarding concerns, including Chairing adult safeguarding meetings and undertaking complex enquiries where necessary.

You will also work within the MH quality framework to ensure continuous improvements and supporting the wider staffing group with embedding new initiatives, learning from safeguarding practices and changes in policies and legislations.

You will be expected to work as part of the County MH Adult Safeguarding Team to ensure a robust safeguarding response across the County and to utilise peer support. Hence you will need to be able to travel across the County flexibly.

You should have extensive practice experience in adult Safeguarding and significant Mental Health experience, you will be educated to degree (or equivalent) level in social work with appropriate professional registration with Social Work England

You must also possess:

- A current AMHP warrant and meet the requirements of the Practice Educator standards toward Stage 1 (or working towards this). Non AMHP’s who meet the person spec, may still be shortlisted and would be required and supported through a tailored personal development plan to obtain their AMHP warrant.
- Substantial working knowledge of Social Care and safeguarding legislation, guidance and Codes of Practice. You must also have a good understanding of Social Work England and Social Work Reform Board requirements.
- A good working knowledge of Adult safeguarding and mental health conditions and approaches to social work intervention.
- The ability to mentor student placements and other staff, work within a multi-disciplinary environment as well as being able to work effectively on your own initiative as well as within a team.
- Good computer literacy and report writing skills.
- An interest in leading training courses and a willingness to attend regular training opportunities.
- A confident manner when dealing with emergency situations, plus exceptional negotiating and interpersonal skills.
