We are looking for an Education Officer (Civil Engineering) to work with the Trust’s Education Manager to develop and deliver the Trust’s civil engineering education programme, including the development of resources and organisation of events.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• To help the Education Manager draft the annual education plan and, once approved, take responsibility for aspects of its delivery, including monitoring expenditure.
• To deliver bridge building and civil engineering activities to schools, colleges, youth groups and the like.
• To support resource boxes for loan to schools and community groups, and administer the loan process.
• To conduct guided tours of Rochester Bridge and facilitate school and other visits.
• To attend careers events and give talks about civil engineering careers.
• To be responsible for developing additional content for the Trust’s engineering education website.
• To organise and manage any volunteer support required.
• To work within the education team to deliver other educational events linked to the Trust’s work e.g. exhibitions, archives, historical education.
• To work within the education team to develop and publish engineering education resources as required, including working with external partners as required, liaising with designers, suppliers and manufacturers as necessary.
• To prepare materials for, and organise exhibitions relating to civil engineering education, liaising with suppliers and designers as necessary.
• To develop relationships with local schools, community groups and others (museums, universities, skills bodies, professional institutions, other specialist charities, STEMnet, and the like) and support engineering education initiatives and events.
• To expand and deliver a comprehensive Schools’ Programme supporting civil engineering education.
• To develop and implement effective systems for monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the Trust’s education work in accordance with best practice.
• To ensure the education programme is widely publicised through liaison with the PR consultants to provide material e.g. news items, articles, blog posts, information to be used on the Trust’s websites, Facebook and Twitter.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Degree in an engineering or physical science subject or teaching qualification in these subjects strongly preferred.
• Full UK driving licence essential.
• Experience of communicating effectively with children and young people essential.
• High standard of written and spoken English essential.
• Strong organisational and IT skills (MS Office) essential.
Other Information:
• This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
• The postholder will be required to register as a STEM Ambassador (see www.stemnet.org.uk.
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum, full-time equivalent.
Location: St Andrews House, Rochester Cathedral Precinct.
Hours per week: 18-22 hours (Up to 4 days, Monday to Thursday).
