Kent Association for the Blind currently have a vacancy for a part-time Fundraising Manager to be based at the Head Office in Maidstone.

The purpose of the job is to research and identify significant Trust and Foundation funding opportunities for KAB and maximise immediate and long-term income. With the support of the Head of Fundraising, the successful candidate will plan, develop, support and where appropriate, lead the building of high-level strategic relationships with major Trusts and Foundations. They will write compelling proposals/applications to secure significant income from Trusts and Foundations co-ordinating input from across KAB teams.

Our ideal candidate will have experience as a professional fundraiser with a proven success in securing funds through an application process. They will have excellent written and spoken communication skills and will be able to use fundraising tools to support a pipeline of potential opportunities.

Job Description

Key responsibilities:


- Undertake targeted research and identify significant Trust and Foundation funding opportunities for KAB, ensuring that this intelligence is maintained and shared with key colleagues across the organisation.
- Work with KAB’s management and staff to understand and develop a pipeline of projects and identify Trusts and Foundations which could contribute to realising our strategic ambitions.
- Proactively develop, support and, where appropriate, lead development of high-level strategic relationships with major Trusts and Foundations.
- Identify opportunities to build strategic relationships and influence trust grant-making policy, including through trust funding networks.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive programme of targeted proposals/applications which secure significant income from Trusts and Foundations, working to co-ordinate input from across KAB teams.
- Provide timely and accurate reports on trust fundraising to the Head of Fundraising to ensure accurate forecasting and projections are maintained.
- Ensure KAB meets funders’ reporting and other requirements including impact statements, using appropriate project management systems.
- Ensure that all grants and donations are acknowledged swiftly and efficiently as well as recorded on our database.
- Adhere to the highest standards of fundraising best practice as set out in the Fundraising Regulator’s codes of practice.
- To contribute to the delivery of stewardship and policy development events for key donors and proactively seeks to promote KAB as a professional, effective project partner to the funding community in general.
- Manage and develop the existing fundraising portfolio to achieve income targets, as set out in KAB’s Fundraising Strategy.
- Create new income streams by developing exciting new fundraising ideas and activities that will engage and motivate funders to support KAB.
- Support current internal and external fundraising events where appropriate.
- Monitor the impact and success of fundraising initiatives in terms of financial outcome, PR and publicity and use the findings to enhance future activities.
- Attend fundraising and promotional events, give talks and presentations about KAB’s work and raise the profile of the charity across the region as required.
- Produce high quality written materials for KAB’s proposals and reporting.
- Work with KAB’s finance team to ensure that all funds due to KAB are received and accurately recorded.
- Ensure compliance with the highest standards of data protection and information governance.
- Be aware of the requirements of regulatory bodies, relevant legislation and current best practice in fundraising. Ensure that all fundraising activities undertaken comply with the highest ethical standards and all relevant legislation.
- Ensure that all activities undertaken are in compliance with KAB’s finance policy.
- Be responsible for ensuring appropriate risk management systems are in place to safeguard the charity’s staff, supporters, volunteers, income, reputation and that appropriate insurance cover is in place.
- Evaluate and monitor the activities and initiatives of other charities to ensure that KAB is aware of current trends, practices and ‘competition’.

- Minimum three years as a professional fundraiser in a relevant role or transferrable skills from a similar role.
- Proven success in securing significant funds for a charity through an application process.
- Using data sources and fundraising tools to support a growing pipeline of potential opportunities.
- Experience and understanding of working with financial data where projects require overseeing, impact reports and outcomes presented.

Essential skills and abilities

- Excellent written and spoken communication skills that will enable the post-holder to engage potential funders through compelling marketing materials.
- Innovative thinking with previous experience of generation of creative ideas.
- Numerate, with an understanding of how to manage income and expenditure relating to funded projects.
- Excellent organisation and administrative skills, ensuring that project details are attended to.
- A sensitive and professional approach towards colleagues and service users, mindful of confidentiality.
- Willingness to recognise limitations of skills and knowledge and to seek support from line manager when necessary.
- A self-starter with the ability and initiative to take activities forward and continually strive to improve and be successful.
- Ability to prioritise effectively and to manage a large and varied workload.
- Excellent IT skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, internet use and database skills.
- Ability to travel across the area of service and work occasional unsocial hours.
- A good pass at O Level/GCSE Mathematics and English Language or equivalent.

Desirable Criteria

- Understanding of a variety of income generation streams across Fundraising.
- Understanding of the relevant regulatory frameworks, Institute of Fundraising’s Codes of Conduct, Fundraising Regulator guidelines and Gift Aid regulations.
