This Job Has Expired! This advert has now been deleted by the advertiser, the details below are for information only.

Location: Targeted work on nature reserves and areas of conservation importance in the East Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

The High Downs Project will enhance the landscape quality and condition across the project area through the restoration and recreation of old habitats to enhance the biodiversity and aesthetics of the countryside. The project will attract attention to the conservation core areas; restoring wildlife rich ancient semi-natural habitats; conserve and increase populations of nationally/internationally rare and threatened species of flora and fauna; revive and renew historic practices such as hedge laying, woodland coppicing and extensive conservation grazing using hardy traditional breeds of livestock.

The High Downs Project Officer will do this by leading teams of volunteers, engaging local communities, land owners, local planning authorities, parish councils, conservation bodies and regulatory agencies to promote and improve the wild spaces in the project area.

The Job:

This post is crucial to the delivery and further development of the High Downs LEI Project, including: recruiting and managing volunteers, ensuring the development and delivery of the programme of works and engaging with Kent Wildlife Trust colleagues, partners, landowners and the local community. The post holder will work closely with the Area Manager for Ashford and Dover. This is a post which will use a broad mixture of skills built on wide, hands-on experience. The qualities of the individual appointed will play a large part in determining the extent of the project.

Ultimately the Project Officer will be responsible for delivering the High Downs Project: creating a conservation complex; a network of linked sites actively cared for and rich in wildlife. This will provide the focus for activity and attention across the project area.

Kent Wildlife Trust is the leading wildlife charity for Kent and Medway, supported by its members and staffed by committed professionals. We are all working to protect wildlife and to find better ways to run an efficient and effective organisation.
