Working for a creative and unique residential school for children situated in 13 acres of parkland just a few hundred metres from the sandy beaches of Broadstairs.


Job Summary
In this role you will work collaboratively with the Education and Care support staff to enhance the integrated and holistic support planning and learning for the young people at the school. There will be a special focus on sensory integration within this post.


Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct assessments for young people with complex sensory and health needs in a variety of educational and residential settings
• Provide evidence-based assessments and reports
• Implement and evaluate individual intervention programs
• Attend reviews and other relevant meetings and submit reports identifying progress and intervention needs
• Liaise with, and guiding support staff to ensure the sensory, fine motor and self-help needs of each young person are met
• Keep parents and carers informed and provide support in developing their young person’s sensory, fine motor and self-help skills at home
• Implement intervention plans and programmes with individual or small groups of young people to facilitate sensory and motor development
• Liaise with internal and external agencies as required
• Ensure the environment and approaches of staff reflect the individual sensory and motor needs of the young people


Skills, know-how and experience required:

• HCPC registration in Occupational Therapy
• Occupational Therapy qualification
• Interest in or experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and autism in a residential school community
• Experience of carrying out intensive occupational therapy treatment and interventions
• An understanding of the impact of both sensory and social communication issues in relation to autism in a residential school setting
• Knowledge of child development and assessments used with young people with learning difficulties in the areas of both sensory and sensory-motor coordination
• Strong team player with excellent communication skills
• Ability to manage a complex caseload autonomously
• Excellent organisational skills and time management
