Our catering assistants ensure that residents across our range of care homes and assisted living scheme receive a high quality meal service that meets their needs and provide a choice of healthy and well-presented food. Catering assistants are an important part of the team ensuring that residents enjoy an outstanding experience of living on the RBLI village in Maidstone.

You will help to provide nutritious and enticing meals for residents ensuring mealtimes are an enjoyable part of the day, helping to prepare the dining rooms to engage residents in a positive and comfortable dining experience.

Food Preparation and Service:

Preparation of food including breakfast, lunch and dinner service through Apetito and meeting ad hoc requests from residents.

Preparation of beverages at regular intervals and for special requests.

Ensuring all food is appropriately presented, garnished and served.

To prepare birthday cakes for each residents birthday

Deliver Apetito meals using the Burlodge oven system as instructed, ensuring correct quantities are made and served in line with training, including suitable portion sizes, garnishing and presentation.

Provide nutritious and appealing snacks for residents on request outside of standard meal times as required.

General Support:

Service of food at meal times

Clearing and cleaning the kitchen, dining room and food service areas including surfaces, equipment, crockery and cutlery and kitchen utensils.

Receiving, checking and appropriately storing kitchen deliveries.

Health and Safety:

Understand and implement the principles of safe food handling to ensure all food preparation is undertaken to appropriate hygiene standards.

Understand and implement cleaning procedures and requirements of different surfaces and equipment and materials to ensure areas and equipment are well presented and maintained in good condition.

Practice safe systems of work across a range of tasks – in particular in moving and handling of loads. Ensuring procedures are adhered to at all times.

Understand personal responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety at work legislation, particularly in evacuation procedures.

To clean all work areas during and after use and remove all waste to appropriate areas.
To maintain temperature records as required and report any variances.

Correctly use work and personal protective equipment in accordance with training and instruction.

General:

Encourage and contribute to working as a team, responding positively to colleagues and acting on requests promptly.

Actively gain resident feedback and ensure it is recorded and/or passed to the General Manager.

Be responsible for the safe and tidy storage of supplies and equipment in your work area

Hospitality:

Act in a professional and courteous manner at all times towards residents and visitors, respecting each resident.

Work with the Activities and Lifestyle Co-ordinator to ensure that people’s dining needs and choices are met, including requests outside of normal meal times.

Ensure that the daily menu is clearly displayed and available for residents and that you are familiar with the menu to provide feedback on staff and resident queries.

Work with the Activities and Lifestyle Co-ordinator to support and deliver events that include a catering element.

Promote and ensure the safety at all times of Adults at Risk.

Shifts:

21 hours per week betweeen 7am to 7pm.
