Polypipe, a FTSE 250 company, is a leading manufacturer of plastic piping systems for the residential, commercial, civils and infrastructure sectors.
We currently have a vacancy for a Transport Controller to join the Logistics Team at Polypipe Building Services, Aylesford.
The hours for the role are 40 hours per week working 12 pm – 8 pm (Monday to Friday)
The Transport Controller will be responsible for:
• Ensuring the smooth running of the entire day to day transport operation, including staff training & disciplinary procedures.
• Ensuring all road transport legislation is complied with including vehicle maintenance, tachographs and maintaining fleet records and undertake investigative work into infringements, accidents and H&S breaches.
• Maintaining the transport office point of contact and liaise with all departments to solve any queries that may arise & monitor timely delivery of customer orders.
• Ensuring maximum fleet utilisation through planning loads for dedicated fleet, carriers & subcontractors where necessary to ensure KPI’s are maintained.
• Creating planned loads on warehousing system to ensure all required orders are shipped to due date.
• Undertaking any additional duties as required.
The key accountabilities and responsibilities for the role include:
• Ensuring the fleet is compliant with all current legislation including defect monitoring and liaising with suppliers reference the maintenance schedule.
• Ensuring that all employees under their control have the required qualifications to undertake the duties asked of them, including Driving Licence & DQC.
• Achieving and maintaining relevant KPI’s
• Attending any developmental training as required
• Allocating work to staff that the jobholder has responsibility for in a fair manner to ensure operational requirements are met.
• Ensuring holiday cover is arranged as and when required
• Maintaining control of subcontractors
• Ensuring all delivery paperwork is completed & filed for access by other business sectors
• Tracking and arranging return of supplier collections & returns through group fleet & subcontractors
The successful candidate will require:
• Supervisory experience
• Knowledge of Road Transport & Working Time Legislation and FORS
• Excellent communication skills
• Good attention to detail and excellent problem solving skills
• The Transport Operations Qualification (CPC or equivalent) would be advantageous but not essential
