Position: Finance Manager

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 per annum
Our client is a leading co-educational Independent School with charitable status located in South East London. This is a highly regarded school across London and beyond. As a charitable organization it has obligations both to its pupils and to the wider community. Both staff and pupils take great pride in this. The commitment from all is evident in the continuing success and progress of the School.
Due to their current Finance Manager taking up a new role, we are now looking to find their replacement. The closing date for this role is Wednesday 17th July with interviews likely to take place from Thursday 25th July onwards.
The Finance Manager will be line managed by the Director of Finance & Deputy Bursar and is ultimately responsible to the Bursar.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient and effective day to day running of the School`s finance department. In particular, the primary tasks of the Finance Manager are:
- Supporting the Finance Director & Deputy Bursar in preparing strategic and detailed financial advice to the Board of Governors, Headmaster and the Senior Management Team. This includes updating the School`s business financial plan, associated modelling and the detailed planning and accounting for capital project expenditure.
- Being responsible for the preparation of termly and full year management accounts for the School and assisting with the preparation of accompanying reports to Governors.
- Being responsible for the preparation of the School`s Annual Financial Statements, including the accounting for charity fund transactions and the detailed disclosures in accordance with Charity Law and accounting regulations.
- Line managing the Deputy Finance Manager and Fees Accountant.
- Managing the School`s cashflows and being responsible for the School`s bank accounts. Being the first point of contact with the School`s bank with regards to the School`s banking arrangements.
- Bring responsible for the accounting for VAT for the School, including the supervision of the completion of VAT returns and ensuring that the School complies with relevant VAT legislation.
- Supervising the submission of various government returns including pension, Office for National Statistics and HMRC on a regular basis. Assist with other returns as required (such as to the Charity Commission).
Experience & Qualifications
We are ideally looking for a candidate with previous experience within the education sector, however we would consider someone with experience in charitable organisations.
Ideally the successful candidate will be a qualified accountant as recognised through the CCAB professional accountancy bodies or CIMA or qualified by experience.
