Construction Director, UK Civils, London, £££ negotiable dependent on experience

Our client, an award winning construction company, are looking to recruit an experienced Construction Director to complement and strengthen their existing senior leadership team.

The role:

* Reporting to the Group Operational Director, our client are looking to recruit a Divisional Director to provide team leadership within UK Civils. A key part of the role will be in developing and mentoring the divisions people; and to promote technical, delivery and operational excellence to their clients.
* You will work closely with the Board Directors and Senior Leadership Team to help develop and deliver new and current opportunities
* Your work will involve local and national projects being delivered across a number of multiple industry sectors
* You will be responsible for ensuring that all relevant project specific operational system/procedures are followed, providing support and promoting a good working culture, responsible for the implementation of safe working systems & practices, improving project margins, supply chain procurement and ensuring that all relevant documentation reflects company policy

Deliverables:

Divisional Delivery;

* Provide team leadership;

* Manage, supervise, train and mentor the project team to enable them to optimise their work contribution
* Set targets to measure performance, and drive continuous improvement

* Deliver performance in accordance with targets and procedures
* Managing and marshalling resources to ensure they are fit for purpose and have sufficient capacity to meet the project delivery requirements of the business
* Providing effective team management, including overseeing project completion timelines, monitoring project costs, and ensuring client needs are met
* Ensuring all operational procedures are adhered to and attention to health and safety matters is a priority for all staff and the company's agents and contractors
* Liaising with other departments and directors, including commercial and finance, to ensure company objectives are met, and the overall business performance is optimal
* Providing direct input to the company's risk register and ensure that it is regularly updated
* Cooperating with the Commercial Director and his team as appropriate to ensure full capture of contractor/ client variations or changes in project scope
* Ensuring all project delivery activities are performed in an ethical manner while maintaining a competitive position for the company
* Maintaining awareness of relevant current business issues and keep abreast of all changes in the sector including legal, technical and contractual trends

Divisional Compliance;

* Work in partnership with the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality departments to understand and deliver our behavioural safety programme
* Embrace all Health, Safety and Environmental legislative requirements and company initiatives, promoting and communicating them across the division
* Work in partnership with Human Resources and Training departments to understand and apply relevant legislative and best practice requirements across the management of the division's people, including sub-contractors and labour supply
* Work in partnership with all procurement and supply chain initiatives

Business Development;

* Develop potential future work opportunities through professional relationships with clients, suppliers and members of the construction community, to ensure repeat business
* Implement an improvement process on the project to identify best practice, implement improvements, gather and feedback knowledge and inform the team how knowledge may be accessed
* Cooperating with the Commercial Director and his team and assist in the development of pricing, bid methodology & strategy writing and risk mitigation strategies
* Providing support and input into the development of the company's project pipeline and order book, actively participate in bid/no bid decisions and ensure resource availability to meet demands

Qualifications/Experience;

* Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject
* Membership or working towards industry recognised chartered memberships

Knowledge;

* Detailed knowledge of Civil Engineering and Construction sectors
* Detailed knowledge of construction industry practice
* Working knowledge of contract law and commercial practice
* Knowledge of construction procurement, contract documents and practice

Skills and behaviours;

* Independent, challenging mind, with the ability to make decisions in areas directly affecting others in a pragmatic and professional manner
* Excellent motivator and team builder - with proven leadership skills
* Good interpersonal relationship skills with confident, resilient approach
* Excellent construction and site management skills with close attention to detail
* Ability to build rapport quickly with others
* Demonstrate the company values in all you do
