Leigh Academies Trust is seeking to appoint a Governance Clerk who will join us in September 2019 in this brand new role. This is a rare opportunity to join a successful and growing organisation at a key phase in its growth and development, making this a pivotal role. Joining the Executive Team, the successful candidate will enjoy a highly demanding role clerking Academy Boards, exclusion hearings, appeals and independent review panels in South East London and North West Kent. You will also provide clerking duties for KMT, a LAT partner offering teacher training working with a number of consortium schools.

Key responsibilities are as follows;

Take notes of meetings to prepare detailed minutes, including indicating who is responsible for any agreed action. Record all decisions accurately and objectively with timescales for actions, monitoring the progress of actions and remind responsible persons of outstanding items and timeframes.
Attend and take notes of student exclusion hearings/appeals and independent review panels in order to prepare concise minutes.
Work effectively with the Governance Officer for South East London and North West Kent.
Send draft minutes to the Governance Officer and make amendments as appropriate.
Liaise and support Leigh Academies Trust Company Secretary to ensure correct advice is provided to the Chairpersons on procedural issues as and when required.
Proofreading services for the Trust Executive.
Carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and general responsibilities of the post.
Comply with Health and Safety Regulations associated with your employment.
Ensure governance compliance of all South East London and North West Kent academy websites.
Research and amend relevant policies.
Provide cover for fellow Governance Clerk in Medway and Central Kent in their absence.

Please be mindful that the successful applicant must be experienced in taking minutes for large meetings in excess of 20 attendees as this is a crucial part of the role. The full Job Description can be viewed by clicking here. The working basis of this role is part-time (4 days per week; Tuesday – Friday) but we require our successful candidate to be flexible; meetings will be a mixture of daytime and evening start times (approximately five meetings per term are held in the evening) and the Clerk will be able to claim TOIL for time worked outside of their contractual hours. A calendar of meetings is published in advance and is available on request to prospective candidates. Interviews for the role will take place on Friday 17th May 2019.
