Head of Projects – Ashford – Competitive Salary
Our client prides itself on their reputation in the construction industry for delivering a quality product, on time and on budget. Our client is based in Ashford, Kent and are looking for a Project Manager that can manage an existing team to join their busy team.
This is a senior management role, ensuring that all projects are delivered to meet both financial and service level expectations. You will work to implement a continual improvement system which incrementally enhances project management processes without disruption the business. You will lead your team and ensure that suitable skills and experience are in place at all times.
Drive financial performance ensuring that profit targets are met and that all commercial matters are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner. You will form part of the senior management team and as such contribute to the general development the business and support all areas where needed.
Key Tasks include:
• Lead the project delivery team on a daily basis including, contracts managers, project managers, site managers, project coordinators and purchasing specialists
• Ensure proper and correct project handover from sales taking into account full financial, technical specification and contractual conditions
• With the project lead understand and identify any differences in requirements from ‘As Won’ specification and ‘As ordered/ to be drawn’ specification
• At handover you will agree the ‘booked margin’ and measure all subsequent performance from that point
• Distribute projects according to skills and workload to ensure most efficient use of resource
• Ensure that project leads ‘own’ their projects from start to finish and that milestones and deadlines are met at all times, including where other teams and departments (outside your direct responsibility) are concerned
• Establish (with project leads) a project specific plan to include design, purchasing and onsite elements – this plan should be published and regularly updated (currently project tracker document)
• Continual contact and communication with project teams both internally and that of our customers
• Regular attendance and support during site meetings as needed
Finance and Commercial
• Ensure specification differences are correctly recorded and customers informed on time and in the appropriate manner to ensure a zero negative financial impact of such differences.
• Ensure all commercial and contractual communications are appropriate and timely across all projects
• Approve major purchases and always ensure budgetary and technical compliance (prior to purchase)
• Vet and approve all variation work, ensuring financial viability and compliance with company objectives and strategic goals
• Ensure applications are done right first time, on time, every time
• Focus your team on the financial health of projects, ensuring that the daily activity is such that it enhances performance and increases bottom line project performance
• Ensure all sub-contractor engagements are contractually sound
General
• Ensure efficient deployment of directly employed site staff and add / remove resource as needed
• To determine and develop the most efficient site methods including sub-contracting and direct employment of skilled / nonskilled labour
• Produce a weekly report encompassing all areas under your responsibility, this will include a project by project detail breakdown on performance and progress (financial and program)
• Champion the use of all company systems and drive better performance with better data
• Take overall responsibility for the company Health & Safety requirements (site and compliance) including sub-contractors and other trades
• Identify and implement training as required to ensure compliance and or improvements within your team
• To ensure that staff and skill levels for future projects are in place in good time and ready to ensure performance targets are achieved
Experience with JCT is a distinct advantage.
