Transport Planner £40k

Our client is looking to recruit a Transport Planner for their busy operation near Folkestone. This is a full-time position, working day shifts of 6am to 6pm, 4 on 4 off.

You will have excellent communication skills to be able to liaise with Drivers, subcontractors, customers, work colleagues and members of the public. You must be able to work under your own initiative, have excellent problem solving skills, able to handle a busy workload, and be responsible for planning vehicles and routes in order to maximise efficiency and minimise costs for the company. Duties include:

* Daily planning for 25-30 vehicles, meeting timed deliveries as required by customers and finding suitable UK reloads.
* Liaising with the drivers throughout the day and monitoring their progress to ensure they complete required work in the required timescales.
* Communicating effectively with customers to keep them informed of the progress of their deliveries.
* Planning of vehicle availability for service schedule and maintenance/repairs of vehicles and trailers, ie creating schedules and monitoring associated costs.
* Reviewing practices to ensure that transport is utilised using the most cost-effective solution, using third party hauliers to cover loads beyond capacity of fleet.
* Have an awareness of industry compliance and relevant legislation.
* Dealing with enquiries and queries.
* Carry out any other tasks required to keep the transport office and vehicles/drivers running efficiently.
* Learning other roles within the business to assist in the future development.

The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of Drivers' hours/work time directive regulations, and at least three years' experience of working within the UK transport industry, with good geographical knowledge of the UK. A Managers CPC is an advantage, but not essential, but you must be proficient in using Microsoft Office/Excel.
