Hostel Housing Officer
£14.0 - £15.0 per annum + up to £15ph

Location: Crawley
Driving Licence is essential for this role.
Main purpose of the role
To carry out all aspects of tenancy management in relation to the Council's hostels and PSL accommodation. Key duties will include letting void hostel rooms, providing tailored support to residents, arrears management, liaising with agencies and other council departments as necessary, dealing with all aspects of the day to day management of the hostels, including ending Licence Agreements in consultation with the Housing Options Team and monitoring the performance of any contractors carrying out work at the hostels.
Duties of the post
* To ensure that all void hostel rooms and PSL properties are processed through the voids system and let to a new tenant as quickly as possible. This will involve;
- Property visits and inspections
- Identifying and arranging required void works.
- Carrying out accompanied viewings
- Completing the sign-up documentation for the Licence Agreement.
* Set up all new hostel and PSL accounts to meet the purpose of helping tenants to pay their rent including
- Providing appropriate advice and support regarding welfare benefits.
- Liaison with Housing Benefit, Department for Work and Pensions, and the Job Centre
* To ensure all aspects of hostels management is carried out including:
- Regular room checks to check the welfare of occupants and ensuring tenancy compliance.
- Investigation and action on any breaches of Licence including creating and serving legal notices.
- Repairs reporting and inspections of rooms, including communal areas, to ensure repairs are completed in a satisfactory, timely manner.
* To attend court and present evidence and through PCOL possession claims where appropriate
Skills and experience we are looking for.
* Dealing with the public in demanding situations.
* Experience within a social housing department or similar organisation (Local Government or Housing Association) including homelessness.
* Understanding of the needs of residents in temporary accommodation.
* Practical knowledge of maintenance issues will be required to identify defects and initiate repairs.
* Awareness of Health and Safety issues.
* Able to communicate effectively by telephone, in writing and face to face.
* Able to organise and prioritise work tasks.
* Ability to cope with difficult, challenging, and sensitive situations.
