A thriving and ambitious FMCG business is looking for an accomplished and enthusiastic Cost Accountant to join its finance team. My client is a market leader in the UK and has a growing reputation worldwide.

Reporting into the Finance Director, you will have the freedom to help make smarter, better-informed decisions that drive the business forward. In addition, you will work collaboratively with all levels of management.

The primary function of this role is to lead the process; creating, validating and maintaining Bills of Material records, analysing variances between standard and actual costs of material, labour and overhead and ensuring the accurate valuation of inventory.

Key responsibilities

Collecting cost information and maintaining an expenses database
Constructing data gathering systems
Determining fixed costs (e.g., salaries, rent and insurance)
Planning and recording variable costs (e.g., purchases of raw material and operations costs)
Reviewing standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
Preparing budgeting reports
Analysing and reporting profit margins
Preparing (monthly, quarterly and annual) cost forecasts
Assisting in month-end and year-end closing

Skills and Experience

Proven work experience as a Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, Accountant or similar role is essential
Working in an FMCG and or private label environment is preferred
Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with accounting software, like MS Dynamics, Sage and CIM
Computer literacy, MS Excel in particular (familiarity with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables)
Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
Strong time management skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information
Degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant study is desirable
