Do you want to make a difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities? Are you looking for variety in your work? Then join our Care Services team as a Support Worker.supporting Service Users and Tenants across the Trust? Our Residential homes are based in Aldington, Ashford, New Romney, Rye, and Woodchurch. Dependent on qualifications and experience you may also work across our Community Support Services. Prior knowledge or experience would be beneficial but not essential as comprehensive training will be provided.

Canterbury Oast Trust takes pride in providing first-class care and support for adults with learning disabilities across Kent and East Sussex. We provide long-term accommodation and care for 93 residents and tenants across eight residential and eight independent living settings, in unique family style homes. The ethos of all our homes is to support independence, dignity, choice and achievement by helping people to live the lives they choose.

The Role:

As a Support Worker working across the Trust you will:

o Be allocated shifts on a monthly rota to meet the needs of our Service Users within Residential and Community services
o Provide good quality care and support to adults based on their needs through a person centred approach.
o Accompany the adults to their life-skills sessions such as music, art and sensory sessions.
o Assist them in every aspect of their daily lives, including personal care
o Provide a safe and supportive environment that enables individuals to feel valued, reach their potential and nurture their aspirations
o Maintain appropriate records and written reports
o Plan trips and activities.


ABOUT YOU:

To be a successful Support Worker in this role you will:

o Have an appreciation of the needs of people with learning disabilities
o Be considerate, calm, patient, self-motivated, enthusiastic, respectful, non-judgmental and professional
o Be flexible, as variable shifts include long days, weekends, sleep-ins and awake nights as allocated on an monthly rota
o Have an understanding or experience of autism, dementia and epilepsy, although not essential as training will be given
o Have knowledge of specialist equipment although not essential as training will be provided
o Have sound interpersonal skills
o Possess good verbal and written communication skills plus basic IT and report writing skills
o Ideally hold a Health and Social Care NVQ2 or Level 2 Diploma Qualification OR be willing to undertake the Care Certificate followed by your NVQ2 within 18 months of joining COT
o Hold a driving licence in order to drive Service Users to appointments/activities using a manual pool car
o 21 or over and held a full licence for a minimum of 1 year (Insurance requirement).
