East Kent Housing Independent Living Team deliver housing related support to sheltered Housing tenants on behalf of Canterbury City Council. The Sheltered Plus service provides all the benefits of sheltered housing with the addition of an on call night service and day time laundry service.


We are looking for a laundry service assistant to support tenants that require a laundry wash and dry service. This role will rotate weekly across three Canterbury and one Whitstable sheltered housing schemes. Occasionally during periods of annual leave you may be required to support services at more than one scheme on the same day.

Usual hours of work will be Monday to Friday 09.00- 14.00. A mileage allowance will be paid as this post will require travel around Canterbury and Whitstable.

Main Duties

To meet the tenants personal laundry needs.
Check laundry equipment is safe to use.
Keep laundry room clean and tidy and free from clutter- reporting any safety concerns to line manager.
Report and monitor repairs to laundry equipment.
Order relevant cleaning supplies.
Be flexible and adaptable, work on a rotational basis in all Sheltered Plus schemes and according to rota.
Support and promote social activities in conjunction with other staff.
Attend training as required.
Attend team meetings as required.

Essential Requirements

Previous experience in a Laundry environment and Health & Safety requirements COSH.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Able to use email, word and excel for letters, notices and data entry.
Ability to work without supervision.
Experience working with older or vulnerable persons.

This post requires you to have a full driving licence and own transport or requires travelling to sites in a timely manner equivalent to motor travel in your own car.

Due to the nature of the role, this post requires an enhanced DBS check.
