The South of England Rare Breeds Centre is a busy tourist attraction with more than 130,000 visitors a year. The Farm is a great day out to see traditional rare breed animals, play in the parks, visit the Discovery Garden, Butterfly Tunnel and ride on the Tractor all of which help to support the work of the Canterbury Oast Trust, a leading local charity providing high quality care and support for adults with learning disabilities across Kent and East Sussex. It also provides valuable training opportunities for the adults with learning disabilities enabling them to develop their animal management or horticultural and customer service skills.

The Role:

We are looking to appoint a LIVESTOCK AND GENERAL FARM ATTRACTION WORKER to join our team at the Rare Breeds Centre. This is a permanent full time post based on 37.5 hours per week worked over five days across Monday to Sunday. You may be required to attend the farm out of normal working hours to assist with birthing duties and other unforeseen events which may arise.

As a LIVESTOCK AND GENERAL FARM ATTRACTION WORKER you will to be responsible for the day to day care of the RBC\'s flock of rare breeds of sheep; work within the flock health and breeding plans; deliver animal based talks to school groups. You may be required to assist with our birds of prey and reptiles (training will be given). You will also assist the Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager in the smooth running of the Centre as a farm, visitor attraction and life skills provider. You will be working alongside our service users and provide advice and information to our visitors.

About You:

As a Livestock and General Farm Attraction Worker you will need:

o 3 years’ experience working with, and handling, a wide range of large farm livestock but specifically sheep, their breeding and husbandry
o A farm livestock based qualification
o To be confident at speaking to and interacting with the public and school aged children
o Basic knowledge of supporting, supervising and training adults with learning disabilities all of whom have differing abilities and needs
o To be able to perform all the tasks detailed within the job description and meet the requirements outlined within the additional information section of the job description
o A friendly and approachable personality with excellent customer service skills in a similar tourist environment.
o To hold a driving licence - may be required to undertake tractor work (including tractor rides) with ancillaries, quad bike and trailer/mounted pesticide sprayer and transit van plus trailer
o 21 or over and held a full driving licence for at least one year.
