The Role:

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated, considerate and patient individual who wants to make a difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities? Then join our expanding team as a Support Worker at Canterbury Oast Trust.

As a Support Worker you will assist our service users in every aspect of their daily lives, including personal care, based on their needs through a person-centred approach to enable them to feel valued, reach their potential and nurture their aspirations.

This is a full time post of 162.5 hours per month and is offered on a 12 month fixed term contract. Part time hours may be considered. You will be required to work on variable shifts which may include short days; long days; weekends; sleep-ins and occasional awake nights as allocated on a monthly rota.

Prior knowledge or experience would be beneficial but is not essential as comprehensive training will be provided.

We provide long-term accommodation and care, based in small family style homes. The ethos of all our homes is to support independence, dignity, choice and achievement by helping people to live the lives they choose.

Old School House is situated within walking distance of the town of New Romney and is home to 8 adults who have a range of learning disabilities including health issues such as Epilepsy..

About You:

As a Support Worker at the Old School House you will ideally have:

o An appreciation of the needs of people with learning disabilities plus physical and sensory impairments
o Experience of using specialist equipment
o Knowledge of autism, diabetes, epilepsy and dementia would be preferable but not essential as comprehensive training is available
o To be considerate, patient, self-motivated, enthusiastic and professional
o Sound interpersonal skills
o Good verbal and written communication skills plus basic IT and report writing skills
o NVQ2 Diploma in Health and Social Care Qualification
o To hold a driving licence (manual) as you may be required to take service users to appointments and/or activities using a manual pool car
o 21 or over and held a full driving licence for at least one year.
