We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join the Systems Team at MGGS. The successful applicant will provide an advanced, efficient and effective technical support service to all users of the school systems and support the maintenance and ongoing development of the network infrastructure, IT resources, and other relevant systems along with co-ordinating technical support for the Computer Hub training.
Applicants should possess advanced knowledge and experience of Microsoft and Google technologies including current server and desktop operating system and server roles, along with computer/network infrastructure equipment and cloud based systems. Knowledge and experience of server virtualisation technologies would also be an advantage.
The successful applicant will contribute to the day to day support and development of the school’s systems and provide a high level of support for teaching and learning. This role will also involve working on projects to further develop our systems including equipment rollouts and upgrades. Applicants should also be confident in the use of audio/visual systems.
The ability to work and communicate with a range of people at all levels, including young people, will be essential. Applicants should have an IT related degree or equivalent experience, or another relevant IT qualification.
Maidstone Grammar School for Girls is a very successful selective girls’ school of over 1200 students with a mixed sixth form of approximately 320. Since July 2019 we have been appointed by the Department for Education as a Computer Hub in recognition of the expertise the school has evidenced in Computing Education and will take a lead in training teachers across the south east in the delivery of Computing. Senior Systems Technician
GRADE: Kent Range 8
CONTRACT WEEKS 52, HOURS PER WEEK 37
RESPONSIBLE TO: School Business Manager
REPORTING TO: Systems Manager


Job Purpose
To provide an advanced, efficient and effective technical support service to all users of the school systems. To support the maintenance and ongoing development of the network infrastructure, IT resources, and other relevant systems. To co-ordinate technical support for the Computer Hub training.

Duties

Systems Development and Support
Configure, test and install both new and existing IT equipment to ensure efficient performance. This includes end user IT equipment and peripherals, as well as network infrastructure equipment including but not limited to network switches, servers and wireless devices.
Configure, test and install other systems equipment eg CCTV devices, VOIP telephones and photocopiers etc.
Monitor the performance of all network hardware and software and carry out advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics where required. Carry out maintenance, repairs and upgrades as required.
Assist the Systems Manager in the maintenance of the virtual server infrastructure, physical servers, network switches and wireless devices. This includes but is not limited to, monitoring user accounts and data, storage requirements, server updates/patches and security updates.
Assist the Systems Manager in the planning, co-ordination and delivery of projects, including for example, the sourcing and testing of hardware and software and taking responsibility for projects as required.
Maintain accurate documentation of systems including maps, diagrams, processes and procedures.
Assist in the planning and implementation of network cabling.
Assist the Systems Manager in the maintenance of the school website as directed.
Maintain and develop cloud based services such as GSuite for Education.

Technical Support and Training
Provide an advanced level of first and second line technical support to staff and students for all school IT systems, escalating support requests to third party suppliers/contractors where appropriate.
Maintain an effective helpdesk/issue reporting system ensuring tickets are dealt with promptly.
Deliver training and produce training resources for end users as directed.
Plan, co-ordinate and provide technical support for the Computer Hub training.

Audio and Visual Systems
Maintain and support the development of audio/visual systems across the school.
Co-ordinate and deliver training of the audio/visual systems for staff and student AV Technicians.
Assist in the setup and delivery of audio/visual presentations as and when required.
Plan for school events, ensuring appropriate resources and student AV Technicians are available.



Business Continuity, Security and Safeguarding
Implement business continuity and disaster recovery procedures in accordance with backup and security processes under the supervision of the Systems Manager.
Respect the confidential nature of all data and ensure data protection and security are maintained at all times inline with current legislation, reporting any concerns to the Systems Manager.
Maintain and monitor safeguarding and filtering systems.

Health and Safety and Record Keeping
Carry out health and safety checks as directed.
Conduct electrical Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) as required.
Maintain accurate records of risk assessments, warranties, licenses and asset registers, carrying out audit checks.

General
Deputise for the Systems Manager as and when required.
Contribute to the development of other team members within the department.
Demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly, occasionally outside of normal hours with prior arrangement with the Systems Manager.
Keep abreast of modern developments and product initiatives related to the main job purpose.
To perform such other tasks as may be reasonably required by the Systems Manager or member of the Leadership Team.

General school responsibilities:
To be available on an ad hoc basis to take part in supervising lessons, school trips, taking responsibility for a group of students.
Undertake appropriate training and professional development, as required by the school and in consultation with the line manager and Headteacher.
Comply with school policies and procedures (including those relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, confidentiality and GDPR) and uphold the ethos of the school.
Uphold the school’s behaviour code and uniform regulations.
Undertake any other duties as required, commensurate with the post.

Qualifications
IT related degree or equivalent experience
Relevant qualification in IT.
