Lead for Therapeutics and Prescribing

£50,132 - £58,089 per annum (Clinical NHS Market Supplement where appropriate)

Canterbury, Kent

University of Kent

This is your chance to join Kent and Medway Medical School and Medway School of Pharmacy in pioneering a new era of responsive, student-centred medical and pharmacy education. As Academic Lead for Therapeutics and Prescribing, you will be an inspirational and influential role model for the next generation of medical and pharmacy professionals.

Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) has been created to be a beacon for first-class medical education and research. Bringing together the resources of the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, our whole ethos is one of partnership. We work closely with the Medway School of Pharmacy (MSOP), which offers an established MPharm programme, as well as a range of postgraduate courses. The role of Academic Lead for Therapeutics and Prescribing involves a 50/50 split between KMMS and MSOP.

The KMMS curriculum follows a spiral model, with students building on the principles and concepts taught year by year, increasing the depth and range of topics learnt. We are creating nine vertical themes that cut across the horizontal integration of basic sciences and clinical practice to introduce distinctive additional curricular elements. For each vertical theme, a mini spiral curriculum needs to be developed from existing learning outcomes as well as further opportunities for students to study these vertical themes in greater depth through student choice options. This model is central to our vision of producing graduates with the curiosity and the academic, professional and clinical skills to find global solutions to local challenges – multi-talented individuals whose training will have prepared them to lead, manage and innovate in 21st Century healthcare.

As Academic Lead for Therapeutics and Prescribing, you will have responsibility for undergraduate teaching of both medicine and pharmacy students, as well as postgraduate courses within MSOP. At KMMS, you will be instrumental in the development of relevant BMBS curriculum content, and in organising the teaching of Therapeutics and Prescribing. You will also make significant contributions to the enhancement of the MPharm and other courses at MSOP. Additionally, you will oversee opportunities for inter-professional education within the undergraduate programmes, working with the leads in both schools.

To make your mark in this unique role, you must be an enthusiastic innovator with a healthy attitude to change and new challenges, plus a co-operative approach that matches our own. Whether you are a doctor, pharmacist or other suitably qualified professional, you should have proven experience of prescribing and therapeutics in the implementation of excellent patient care. You will also need up to date expertise in undergraduate medical, pharmaceutical and/or healthcare education - ideally with further experience spanning student selection, curriculum design, assessment (including admissions), use of portfolios in medical education, electronic learning and assessment, and inter-professional learning and assessment.

This post will be based in Canterbury (Kent) and Medway.

Interviews are planned for 17 or 19 September 2019.
