Coach (for the Kent Homeless Connect Service)

£20,278 - £22,897

Porchlight

Because like you, we’re dedicated to changing attitudes and changing lives.

Porchlight is recruiting for a number of Coach roles in the following areas:
Canterbury
Thanet
Dover, Folkestone and Hythe

About us:

Porchlight is a charity supporting people who are homeless, vulnerable and isolated. At Porchlight, we are passionate about helping vulnerable people to reach their full potential. We strive for a fairer society where vulnerable people find stability, the most excluded are included, and where homelessness and poverty are things of the past.

The role:
As a coach, you will work with adults (aged 18 and above) who are homeless, living in Porchlight properties or at risk of becoming homeless.

You will help those who are homeless to overcome the psychologically damaging effects of sleeping rough. Some (classed as ‘high-support’) will have multiple complex needs. Others will have fewer complex needs but will still require your support.

Your work with people at risk of homelessness is about helping them address the problems that could lead to them ending up on the streets.

In all cases, this will involve help with budgeting, debt management, education, employment, setting up home, accessing welfare and housing benefits, mental health and substance misuse, and re-integrating with the local community. One of your main tools will be strength-based support (focusing on people’s individual strengths).

You may also be required to liaise with councils and health professionals on their behalf.

Your work will be carried out in both Porchlight properties and the community (including people’s homes).

As a Porchlight ‘coach’, you will be part of the Kent Homeless Connect Service – a collection of support organisations for homeless and vulnerable people.

This role requires:

Good communication and people skills
The ability to work with multiple clients at once
Experience of working with homeless or vulnerable people (if you don’t have direct experience of this but have skills in a similar field, we would still like to hear from you)
Experience of working with statutory and voluntary agencies (if you don’t have direct experience of this but have skills in a similar field, we would still like to hear from you)
A full driving licence and access to a car (subject to the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and Equality Act 2010).
Benefits:
As a member of the Porchlight team you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits, including:

Free life insurance
25 days holiday per year (increasing to 30 days after five years’ service)
Porchlight pension scheme

Closing date: 9am Thursday 21 February 2019, though we reserve the right to close applications early.

Interviews will be taking place on: 25 and 27 February 2019 in Canterbury.
